those vulnerable to homelessness in the Ozarks

This list includes ideas from many different organizations in Springfield who are working with those who are homeless or at risk. Often several organizations have similar needs. The Council of Churches of the Ozarks can help serve as a resource to help you follow your interest to just the right organization. Print this sheet for consideration of your members.
 
INDIVIDUAL VOLUNTEERS (or small groups)
            With an organization:
__ Collection and preparation of supplies (layettes, personal hygiene items, etc.)
__ Office help (file, answer phone, type, etc.)
__ Warehouse help (sort, pack, etc)
__ Helping with special events: back to school, Christmas toys, etc.
 
 
           With personal contact: 
__ Providing transportation, driving a van (children to school, individuals to work or agencies)
__ Shopping (transportation and mentoring)
__ Mentoring (moms, befriending a youth, single man, family)
__ One-on-one (budgeting, interviewing, visiting, etc)
__ Professional services (dentist, doctor, counselor, attorney, maintenance, etc.)
 
 
CHURCH WIDE SUPPORT (or small groups)
            With organization:
__ Emergency financial help through One Door
     (bus passes, motel vouchers, utility assistance, etc.)
__ Occasional project: (painting, landscaping, construction, etc.)
__ Collecting needed items: (blankets, linens, paper goods, sweat suits, etc.)
 
 
            With personal contact:
__ Church facility (Shelter, serving meals, classes, day center, etc.)
__ Adoption of an area (playground, park) or facility (housing, apartment)
__ Pantry support
__ Shelter support (Overnight supervision, transportation, meals)
__ Serve as a One Door referral church
