Leap of Faith
Pilot Plan for Churches to Mentor a Homeless Family into Permanent Housing
Mentorship is a necessary part of permanent change. LEAP OF FAITH is a pilot program to match families moving from supported transitional housing into their own place. Mentor teams will encourage them to achieve self-sufficiency
In this beginning phase, we are interested in trying a pilot program with one or two tenant families to test plans which have been used successfully in similar programs.
Leap of Faith Mentorship Team will be asked to:
- Put together a team of 3-6 people who will mentor a family
- Plan to have your team meet with their family numerous times, especially in the beginning, but over a period of about 6 months
- The Mentoring Teams will provide:
- relational support/friendship;
- financial/budgeting practice;
- guidance toward meeting personal goals;
The Church will receive:
- Training for the mentors, provided by the Community Partnership of the Ozarks;
- Complete screening of the family to help assure adequate income and a positive experience for the family and the mentors;
- Careful matching and knowledge of the family from the Council of Churches of the Ozarks, before actually meeting them;
- A supply of mentoring tools, including suggestions for meetings and workbooks;
- Continued information and advice from the caseworker and other professionals;
- Recommended plans for closure at the end of the mentor relationship.
