Ambassadors for Children- Helping Abused & Neglected Foster Kids The programs of AFC are developed to build potential and self-esteem in foster children. In 2011, a record number of children benefited from the services of AFC. The Kid’s Clothes Closet served 567 children - an18% increase. Project Self Esteem had a 22% increase. Volunteer tutors provided 170 individualized sessions.
Crosslines – A Food Pantry & Services for Families in Crisis
Our food pantry converted to a client-choice model, serving an average of 50 families per day (a 14% increase). With donations from the community, Crosslines was able to supplement our Pantry Sponsors by serving 31,100 people - a new record. 2,138 new families were assisted – a 7% increase. The 2011 Holiday Center provided holiday food baskets for 2,000 families and toys for over 3,500 children.
Child Care Food Program – Monitoring Healthy Meals in Home-Based Daycares
CCFP monitored 340 in-home childcare providers to ensure nutritious meals were being provided for approximately 8,500 children. CCFP serves 53 counties including the cities of Kansas City, St. Louis, Columbia and Sikeston.
Child Care Aware® of Southern Missouri – Quality Training for Early Childhood Professionals
More than 1,000 early childhood professionals trained through group training. 281.75 hours provided through on-site technical assistance to early childhood programs. Focused response to assist in Joplin relief efforts targeting young children (elementary school and younger) by providing over 10,000 care kits to help relieve stress and trauma.
Connections Handyman Services – Providing Essential Home Repairs for Low-Income Seniors CHS provided essential home repairs to 110 households. Included in these repairs were 44 major infrastructure repairs, 36 major repairs and 30 minor repairs. Repairs included new water heaters, HVAC, sewer lines, main water lines, bathroom floors and winterization/weather efficiency repairs.
Daybreak Adult Day Care – Providing Medically-Monitored Adult Care & Day Habilitation
Daybreak provided 5,955 service contacts (245 operational service days to 48 clients).Nursing and Social Service staff monitored medical conditions and collaborated with other local professionals responsible for the clients care outside our facility. Socialization, entertainment and community outings beyond our client’s physical and financial means are also provided. Eldercare Transit provided over 8,585 handicap accessible non-emergency medical transports for Daybreak clients and the extended community.
Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program – Advocating for the Rights of Nursing Home Residents Overall for 2011, Ombudsman staff and volunteers spent 5,126 hours advocating, made 29,862 resident contacts and recruited five new volunteers.
RSVP – Seniors Leading with Experience through Volunteering
RSVP coordinated 1,500 active volunteers with 350 different non-profits and organizations that depend on volunteer services. RSVP vans logged more than 30,000 miles transporting volunteers, and all RSVP volunteers logged a grand total of 190,000 hours of service, providing an estimated value of more than $3.8 million to our community.
Homeless Connection – Connecting People to Services for the Homeless
Safe to Sleep sheltered 75 women, since Oct. 1, averaging 12 per night. This overnight shelter utilizes 50 volunteers and is open seven nights a week. Leap of Faith began a pilot mentorship program helping families transitioning from homelessness to independent living. The January Homeless Count served 168 homeless with food, hygiene products, bicycles, sleeping bags and other needs.
